F-104S-ASA (c/n 1112) MM6812 "53-21" , Italian Air Force, had been preserved on a pole as gateguard in Roma-Guidonia for many years. In May 2024 it was taken down for (likely) refurbishment at Guidonia but in the meantime on the preserval location they mounted now an MB339 with code 60-01, so it looks like it will not return to the gate.
We are now wondering what will happen to this F-104S. Maybe after all these years there is too much structural damage due to corrosion and then the future will be very unsure for the aircraft.
