RS-01 moved to San Damiano

Early April 2019 the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore at Piacenza, Italy, stated that they plan to remove their preserved F-104S RS-01 which was preserved on a pole since April 2010. They planned to removed the F-104 because it is a "negative symbol of war". Finally, after more than 4 years later, the aircraft was taken down. On August 21st company Emiliana Trasporti took care of the handling and exceptional night transport of this F-104S Starfighter from the Catholic University of Piacenza to the military airport of San Damiano, a 28km journey, where it arrived the next day. The unique feature of this transport was that the wings were kept on the aircraft during transport making it 6.5 meters wide!!
Hopefully we will soon find out more about the real identity of this Starfighter fuselage which is not the MM6737.

Company Emiliana Trasporti has published many pictures of which a few can be found beneath. And they also made a nice video showing the take-down and transport. See here.
