
On April 29th, 1985, the German Luftwaffe officially performed the final F-104 Starfighter overhaul. The aircraft was F-104G 24+54.
Yesterday, March 25th, 2025, around 40 years later, the aircraft's life came to a dramatic end, when it was cut in pieces and being scrapped for recycling.
Although the aircraft belonged to the Luftwaffe Museum collection, it was on loan to the Luftfahrt und Technik museumpark at Merseburg from 1999 till yesterday.
In 2021 the museum closed and the technical quality of the F-104G was very poor, so it was decided to withdraw the aircraft from the collection. This means it became a candidate for destruction. Yesterday it was the sad day that the cranes from PzPiBtl 701 ended the life of this Starfighter...
