7005 end of life…

It looks like F-104G 7005 has reached the end of its life. Heavily corroded due to the sea coast circumstances this aircraft has been taken off its statute at Mersin. In total the aircraft has been sitting on this statute for more than 26 years after it came from the Eskisehir storage late 90s. All the way it wore serial "8-7005" which had been applied already at Eskishir in 1995. The aircraft once served with the German Air Force from September 1961 as KE+305, DA+107, DR+107, DB+101 and 21+37 and after it was delivered to Turkey in October 1984 it flew with the 4th Wing, 9th Wing and finally with the 8th Wing before it retired in 1989. In total the aircraft is now 64 years old and end of its life... Soon it is expected that it will be scrapped.

Pictures taken at Mersin thanks to Anil Arda Gerede and the picture of 21+37 taken by Gunter Grondstein at Lechfeld, June 8th, 1977.

    Very sadly!

Gladly we have the 7004 on a pole at Lechfeldkaserne and the 7006 preserved at Lechfeld Air Base.
