Note: This Starfighter was used lots of research programs within the NASA and also for astronaut training. It was officially delivered to the NASA on July 19th, 1963 but was in fact flown over to the NASA facility (by Joe Walker) on August 19th. From the beginning it flew with code "011" and very bright NASA color scheme, lateron serial was changed into "812".
In 1970 it was resprayed into the wellknown white-darkblue-lightblue scheme which lateron changed into white-blue-white. It got also recoded into N811NA. It was seen also outside Dryden a few times including a visit to Dobbins AB (open house in July 1979) and El Paso Apt (May 1981). On October 23rd, 1987 it made the last official NASA research flight with Bill Dana at the controls. After that flight it was kept in operational storage for a while until at least October 1990. Then it was officially phased out with a total of 4370 lfights accomplished. In October 1992 it was seen at Edwards Air Base completely cocooned to pretect the airframe from the outside environment. Soon after it was prepared for display purposes and brought over to Prescott, Arizona. There it was put on display at the Riddle Aeronautical University where it was first noted in 1997.

N811NA

In the early days the NASA Starfighters carried a wonderful colorscheme together with the early serials. Here 011 (later becoming 811 and again later when painted white/blue becoming N811NA) is seen in the air on October 24th, 1963 just after all three aircraft above had been delivered, still brand new..
